Ad-Aware

Ad-Aware is a free Windows program that finds and removes adware and spyware. ITS recommends that Windows users install Ad-Aware and run it frequently. It is best used in conjunction with McAfee Anti-Virus and Spybot.

Usage

Ad-Aware can be downloaded here. After installing, run the program and select "Check for updates". This allows Ad-Aware to download information on the latest adware threats, allowing them to be scanned for. After the updates are downloaded, click "Start" to scan your computer. This will take several minutes.

If results are found, right-click on any of them and click Select all. Then click Next. Click OK to quarantine the detected items. "Quarantine" is a back-up process in which the detected items are saved to a different location, rendering them harmless. Reboot and run Ad-Aware again to ensure that your system is clean.
