Remove Spyware, Adware, Viruses, Trojans, Worms...

You must have effective anti-virus software to compute on the Carleton residential network.

logo The SCIC supports the use of McAfee Anti-Virus for PC's and Virex for Macs. Both can be downloaded here. PC users, when you download McAfee, you must immediatley download the most recent SuperDAT file here.

It is highly recommended PC users also download and use:

Spybot logoSpybot, which can be downloaded here.

Ad-Aware logoAd-Aware, which can be downloaded here

Microsoft Anti-Spyware, which can be downloaded here

Remember to run all scanning programs with the latest updates!

E-Mail

Access to a student email account is vital to academic life at Carleton. Although students can rely on webmail, the campus also supports the use of the Mulberry email client, which can be downloaded for free here.

Mozilla Thunderbird Another quality email client for PC's, Mozilla Thunderbird, can be downloaded for free here. Mac users may want to use MacMail. For many reasons Carleton strongly discourages the use of Microsoft Outlook.

Web Browsers

Internet Explorer is a poor choice of web browser for either Macs or PCs. It is slow and insecure.

logo Over ninety percent of all adware and spyware (malware) infiltrations that Internet Explorer is suscetible to are avoided through the use of the faster, more secure browser Mozilla Firefox, which can be downloaded for free here.
