Macromedia Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is a program for editing webpages. It offers the opportunity to edit a page's HTML or a page's display. It is a very powerful program and has a rather steep learning curve. It is not too hard to learn some basics that will give you a great looking home page.

Creating a Site

To create a website you will want to go to the "Site" Menu and select "Manage Sites..." Select the "New..." button, then "Site" from the drop down menu. You will then receive a dialog box and you will be given the opportunity to Name your site. After clicking "Next," you are asked about what server technology you are going to use. For almost anybody reading this, you will want "No. I do not want to use a server technology." In the next window select "Edit directly on server using local network." This is where you will specify your webpub folder to house your site. Click on the folder icon in the center of the window and browse for your webpub folder. After you have selected your webpub folder you can click "Next" and review the information presented to you in the final window. If this information is correct, click "Done."

Now is the time to start creating the pages you want in your site. This can be done by going to "Flie," then "New..."
