Microsoft Entourage

This tutorial is to provide instruction for managing your Carleton email account using Microsoft's MacOS X equivalent to Outlook for Windows, called Entourage. Fortunately, Entourage is a far better application and interacts much friendlier with Carleton's mail servers than does Outlook!

Seting-up Entourage

To create a new mail account:
  • Open Entourage and go to Tools>Accounts.
  • Click "New" to add the account.
  • You will then be asked what kind of account you are setting up. As Carleton uses IMAP, select IMAP from the Account Type list and click OK.
  • Name your account. Preferably, name it something like Carleton Email, or Carleton.edu, or Carleton, etc.
  • Fill in your name and email address. Remember to put in the full email address, not just your Carleton user name (i.e. user@carleton.edu, as opposed to simply "user").
  • If you've ever used Mulberry or any other mail client for managing your Carleton mail, the rest of the form probably looks familiar to you. Here's what you need:

    • Receiving Mail:

    • Account ID: Your Carleton username

    • IMAP Server: imap.carleton.edu

    • Password: Your Carleton password

    • Sending Mail

    • SMTP Server: smtp.carleton.edu

    • Advanced Settings These are crucial

    • Under advanced receiving options, check "This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL)."

If for some crazy reason this doesn't work, contact the SCIC for more assistance.
