ResNet (Residential Network) is the part (subnet) of the Carleton network used for network access by individually-owned student, staff, and faculty computers. The other major subnets are the Acad (used by lab computers) and the Admin (used by office computers).
Connecting to the ResNet requires registration. Computers are often deregistered and must be re-registered. This is done for a number of technical reasons, and does not always indicate a problem with the computer.
Connecting to the ResNet requires an Ethernet adapter, which allows a computer to talk to our network. These are almost always built into computers, and present in all semi-modern laptops.
If you're experiencing problems with your Ethernet card:
- Make sure the card is installed correctly
- Make sure the card's drivers are installed properly. They are generally available on a CD or Floppy Disk that comes with the card, or from the manufacturer's website.
