Scratch Disk

The scratch disk is a drive (usally drive D) which is mounted on on all the lab machines that allows you to save on that particular machine, it is the only place on the machine which does not get reset after start-up.

To open the scratch disk on a PC double click on the My Computer icon in the top left of the screen, then double click on drive D, that is the sctarch disk. On a mac the scratch disk sould show up as an icon on the desk top. You may see other people's work on the scratch disk, please do not delete it, it may be importaint to other students. The scratch disks do get cleaned out periodically by ITS.

When working in the labs it is best to:
1. Save your file every five minutes or so to the Scratch Disk.
2. When finished, move your file from the Scratch Disk to your network folder or a CD-R.

If you have any questions about the stratch disk please contact the SCIC.
