The BIOS

The central processing unit of your computer needs to be able to talk with the other parts of the machine. It does this through Basic Input/Output Services (BIOS).

You can view and edit the BIOS by typing F1, F2, F10, or F11 upon boot. The BIOS interface is often referred to as the System Set-Up, so when you boot your computer check to see if the keyboard command to enter the BIOS is displayed.

The BIOS is where you can reconfigure a machine's boot order as well as view what drives and hardware components the computer recognizes in trying to diagnose Hardware Problems.
